Introduction
The objective of the Master of Social Work programme is to produce the leaders of social work profession in direct practice, social policy and research, and social administration and development. Integrative learning, interdisciplinary exposure and innovative capacity building are the key pedagogical features of our Master of Social Work programme. The MSW programme is designed to facilitate students’ systematic integration of social work professional values and practice, theory and practice, and research and practice in every class. It also offers students interdisciplinary learning opportunities to take modules from other departments within the faculty as well as public policy, public health, and health sciences in other faculties and schools to their special interest. In our Master of Social Work programme, students can expect to build their innovative capacity of being future-ready social work professionals who are equipped with strong and distinct leadership quality and cross-sector mobility in the Singaporean social service sector.
Programme Structure
A candidate for the degree of Master of Social Work must complete at least 40 MCs at level 5000 or 6000, excluding graduate diploma modules. SW5117A and SW5117B are capstone modules. Students without BSW are required to complete a practicum. Students without BSW or GDSW are required to complete foundation modules above 40 MCs.
Students with BSW:
- SW5117A, SW5117B; and
- 8 elective modules with at least a module from each of the 4 baskets of modules.
Students with Graduate Diploma in Social Work (GDSW):
- SW5117A, SW5117B;
- SW5111B; and
- 7 elective modules with at least a module from each of the 4 baskets of modules.
SW5111B requires 400 fieldwork hours and field supervision under an approved supervisor.
Students without BSW or GDSW:
- SW5113, SW5114, SW5115 and SW5116;
- SW5117A, SW5117B;
- SW5111A; and
- 7 elective modules with at least a module from each of the 4 baskets of modules.
SW5113, SW5114, SW5115 and SW5116 are cross-listed with GDSW essential modules.
SW5111A requires 800 fieldwork hours and field supervision under an approved supervisor. Students are required to attend field integration seminars.
