Introduction

The one-year full-time Master in Public Administration (MPA) programme prepares students for senior management roles in the public sector. It provides an intensive, interdisciplinary course of study for professionals who wish to work on increasingly complex issues shaping national, regional and global policies and projects.

The LKYSPP’s Master in Public Administration aims to school the future leaders of organiszations as well as government institutions and agencies. Over the course of the programme, participants will be exposed to useful skills and knowledge used by researchers, public managers, leaders as well we policy practitioners. Applicants can look forward to developing their national and international network and boost their leadership and management capabilities.

Qualified MPA students have the opportunity to pursue a double degree, either with NUS Law School or NUS Business School.

Please note that it is mandatory for applicants of the programme to be proficient in English.

Furthermore, all applicants should be able to demonstrate a strong interest in public administration as well as steadfast dedication towards the public service.

The LKYSPP yearns to play its part in enhancing the standards of governance for a more sustainable world.

Programme Structure

MPA students will be required to complete 40 Modular Credits and obtain at least a Cumulative Average Point (CAP) of minimum 3.0. You need to complete the following:

  • 5 Core modules
  • 2 Elective modules from the Public Management & Leadership Specialisation area
  • 4 Elective modules
Core Modules

The core modules focus on imparting practical skills, disciplinary knowledge, and interdisciplinary competencies necessary for the work done by policy practitioners, researchers, public managers and leaders.

Admission Requirements
Application and required documents

Applicants must submit an online application. The following documents (in soft copies) are required when submitting an application.

Applicants should have attained a mid-level managerial position in their career. They aspire to management roles and demonstrate commitment towards public service. Proficiency in written and spoken English is a must.

Eligibility

To be considered for the Master in Public Administration (MPA) programme, you must have either:

  • A good NUS honours degree (second class and above) or equivalent (e.g. a four-year Bachelor degree with at least an average grade of B or equivalent), and a minimum of five years of relevant work experience; or
  • A good Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of five years of relevant work experience.

Other qualifications may be accepted subject to approval by the NUS Board of Graduate Studies.

Please note that meeting the minimum requirements does not imply automatic admission into the programme.

Standardised Test Scores

TOEFL /IELTS is mandatory for all applicants except those with Bachelor’s degree conducted entirely in English.

While the Admissions Committee does not set minimum scores for admissibility, experience suggests that successful applicants usually achieve or exceed the following scores:

  • 600 on the TOEFL paper-based test
  • 100 on the TOEFL internet-based test
  • 7.0 on the IELTS academic test

Scores for the TOEFL and IELTS are valid for two years.
