Introduction

TUM Asia commenced operations in Singapore in 2002 as a branch campus subsidiary of the Technische Universität München (Technical University of Munich, TUM). TUM was invited to set up a campus in Singapore to be part of the “Global Schoolhouse Initiative”, a project that aimed to develop Singapore into a hub with world-class educational institutions – providing a variety of top quality education options to Singaporeans and in the region.

As the first German academic venture abroad, TUM Asia is supported by the Singapore Government through the Economic Development Board (EDB), and by the German Government through the Federal Ministry of Education and Research and the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD).

Partnerships with Asia’s Best Universities
Through its groundbreaking collaboration with Singapore’s two leading universities, TUM has pioneered globalization of German universities with the presence of TUM Asia in partnership with National University of Singapore (NUS) and Nanyang Technological University (NTU) to offer post-graduate programmes.

Facing a rapid increase of demand for skilled labour, TUM Asia has also launched programmes in TUM’s expertise – bringing the best of German Engineering to Asia. The degrees are taught by TUM faculty combined with relevant lectures from experts in German and Singaporean industries, integrating a globalized classroom environment.
